Pregnancy Q&AFirst TrimesterPregnancy LifestyleWeek 7

Are you having crazy/weird dreams during pregnancy?

Are you experiencing some unusual dreams? Do not worry about it, since many women go through this during pregnancy. They have some strange dreams of sex, animals, buildings, etc. These unfamiliar dreams are nothing but your thoughts and emotions about being pregnant. These emotions are changeable and may range from tension and stress to excitement etc. regarding the changes you and your body are going through.

The vividness of the dream may be because during pregnancy there are some interruptions that may disturb your sleep cycle, for instance, the urge for urination, backache, leg cramps, etc., which makes you remember your dream more clearly and makes you dream more, hence interruptions are one of the causes of strange dreams.

Your dreams may vary from trimester to trimester, you may dream about a grown baby and if you are concerned to go to your office after childbirth then you may dream about missing your child’s babyhood. You may dream about driving and buildings, which are basically due to the changing lifestyle indicating your adjustments to these life-changing experiences. Also dreaming about ‘swimming’ is common since fluid begins to build in your uterus. During the second trimester, you may dream about cute animals like puppies, kittens, chicks, etc. You may also go through erotic dreams since the urge for sex is common during this time and there’s nothing to worry about if you are having these dreams.

However, there is nothing to worry about these dreams, in fact, you can record your dreams and ask the dad-to-be if he is also going through the same phase. Further, if you dream of something scary and worrisome about your baby or family, then you must talk to your partner or midwife regarding the same. However, these dreams are most common in the last trimester since the excitement and tension are the most during that time.
